In my work, images are repeated multiple times. I use cut paper and cut photographs collaged along with paint. Print making techniques as well as roller, brush and spray bottle are used to apply paint. Each image may be slightly different from the previous one, sometimes the differences are only discernible upon close inspection. When viewed from farther away, the images begin to take on a symmetrical pattern—as if the viewer is looking out a car window at scenery speeding by, or a strip of film, or photographic negatives.
The grid and the use of multiples force the eye to look again and again. The repetitions suggest to the viewer that he or she will begin to know or expect what shape or picture should come next. While there is a certain comforting predictability, the overall effect may be disconcerting.
My source images have ranged from the human face and form to stage sets. My current work is focused on specific geographical places and the architectural forms within, including coastlines and horizons.
